Each month Pieces of String will have a flash fiction writing competition. Because this is a new feature for this site, for 2017 ALL ENTRIES will be made public on the site as long as they follow the guidelines. ALL ENTRIES will therefore be eligible to win the Reader’s Choice Award in December.

Submission Guidelines:

1 ) Authors must be aged between 12 and 19 years old at the time of submission.

2) Any submitted material must be wholly the work of the person submitting.

3) Work must be of a high standard ie. free of spelling and grammatical errors.

4) While there is a place for swearing and explicit sexual scenes in fiction, this is not the place for it.

5) Any work that is deemed by the judges to intentionally inflammatory, prejudice or discriminatory will not be published. This competition is not the place to debate the use of controversial themes in fiction, although it is a valid debate.

6) Friends and family of the author of this site are not eligible for this competition. Sorry.

7) All submissions must be sent through the ‘Contact’ page on the website.

Reader’s Choice Award:

From February until the end of December readers can vote for their favourite story. The story with the highest number of votes will be the winner of the Reader’s Choice Award. The winner will be announced in January 2018.
