Relativity

It’s true. Time does seem to go faster the older you get.

January is upon us and in my neck of the woods you’d think that would mean lazy days reading under a tree or walking along the beach or kicking a footy with my boys – and of course that happens too – but it also means making plans for the year, looking ahead not just days but weeks and months.

When I was little the year seemed to drag and I can see that for B1 and B2 as well. They’re already wishing it was Easter (perhaps spurned on by the hot cross buns already for sale!) and planning what they’ll do for Santa next year but there are long stretches of time between those big events and, likely, it will feel like forever until they get here.

“When you sit with a nice girl for two hours you think it’s only a minute, but when you sit on a hot stove for a minute you think it’s two hours. That’s relativity.”

Albert einstein

Me? I’ve got dentist appointments to make, school clothes to inspect, meals to prepare, deadlines already written in my diary (my extremely fancy Kikki K. diary) and that tends to compress time.

So what can you do? What can I do? Dunno. But in the meantime, such that it is, I intend to take each day as it comes and find joy in them as much as possible. Because I can’t control time, but I can control how I spend it.

I write young adult novels and have a passion for reading and writing. My blog is a place were young adult writers can get tips to improve their own writing so that they too can share their stories with the world. I'm a wife to a wonderful husband and mum to two beautiful boys.
