Title: Before I Fall
Author: Lauren Oliver
Ease: Moderate
Rating: 5/5
I instantly disliked the protagonist, Sam, in Oliver’s Before I Fall. She reminded me of the girls that made me so unhappy in school – and she had no problem justifying her behaviour. So I was presently surprised to find that, by the end of the book, I had come around.
Before I Fall is about a Mean Girl who dies two days before Valentine’s Day and is forced to repeat the day of her death until she gets it right. Watching her become more empathetic and insightful with each re-spawn was really enjoyable and I loved both the premise of the book and the theme – which seemed to me to be, live kindly because you never know what other people are going through.
I would definitely recommend Before I Fall. Be warned though, it’s a tear-jerker.
