Are you the best writer in the world? You paint word-pictures like no one else? You create characters that are so three-dimensional, readers feel like they’re sitting next to them? You write stories that take people on a journey to other worlds and times and places?
Nah, me neither.
Does that mean you and I should give up now? That no one will want to read our stories or publish our books. No.
Albert Einstein
It’s not that I’m so smart, it’s just that I stay with problems longer.
There will always be someone who is a step ahead of you. There will be people out there who are simply gifted in what they do. But, without persistence, these people are no more likely to go on and succeed than you and me. I have met plenty of talented, even gifted, people who have given up on things because they simply did not have the drive or determination to carry on.
Regardless of where you are in your writing career, remember the thing that will help you achieve your goals is your ability to stick with it, ride out the failures, swallow the rejection, and just keep writing.
